Touch Boards

Description

Long before a child holds a pencil, their hand needs to learn control, lightness, and direction, and the Touch Boards are where that training begins. Housed in a single beechwood box, the set presents four distinct tactile surfaces designed to refine the fingertips and prepare them for the physical demands of writing.

• A board that is half rough, half smooth, for the child’s very first contrast in texture
• A board of ten alternating rough and smooth strips, extending that contrast into a sequence
• A board graded across five segments from very rough to least rough
• A board graded across five segments from very smooth to least smooth

The child explores each board with a light, deliberate touch, the same touch later needed to hold a pencil with control rather than force. Beyond refining the tactile sense itself, this repeated practice builds the fine muscular control in the hand and fingers that underpins legible, confident handwriting, making it one of the more quietly important materials in the sensorial sequence.
